AURREAL

Augmented Reality (AR) Project
Date: 2018
Tools: Cinema 4D, Unity 3D & Xcode

Info & Concept

Immersive . Surreal . Experimental

“AURREAL” is the final project of the course “Alternative Methods in Motion Media Design” in SCAD Atlanta. It was exhibited in the Media Art show “Zoetropia 2” in 2018 summer.
The name “AURREAL” comes from “Augmented Reality” and “Surreal”, which is the technology and the theme of this project. It brings the virtual 3D models into our real world by the AR technology. The users’ experience is further enhanced with the mix of video background and sound effects in the AR world.

Making-of

“AURREAL” is my first attempt to create AR content. The process is full of fun, challenge, and frustration, but the outcome is so rewarding when I saw visitors having fun with this AR project.
Basically, the models and animation are created in Cinema 4D following the concept sketching. The models are then exported to Unity for adding the AR camera function with the Vuforia engine. Video background and sound effects are both added in the Unity project. Then the project is exported to Xcode for building the iOS app. Finally, a lot of back and forth tweak between these steps in order to make it works!
Thank you!
